- By a generous donation from his excellency
- Sheik Khaled Ben Ali Altorky
2
- To establish the first national
science garden in Jordan that attracts students and the general public,
provoking and stimulating their interests in learning science and
technology; the most important fields of knowledge in contemporary life,
and most needed for our country’s progress and advancement in the 21st
century.
3
- To provide local schools with opportunities for extracurricular
activities;
- in science &
mathematics programs, enriching the imagination, vision, and knowledge
of teachers and students, in a stimulating and exciting natural
atmosphere.
4
- Highlighting and enhancing the spirit
of innovation at the national level of expertise and local
industry. Therefore the Garden layout and architecture, and every piece of equipment and/or
apparatus of the exhibits are to be completely designed and manufactured
by Jordanian engineers, scientists and technicians from local institutions and companies.
5
- Consequently sticking to allocated budget and reducing the cost of this
national project by many orders of magnitude compared with similar
projects executed in other Arab countries by foreign expertise.
6
7
- The overall design and
selection of the Garden layout
and exhibits were manipulated and
decided by considering the following
five aspects and
guidelines :
8
- the layout plan was made
according to the natural landscape of the Garden area, with NO elimination of existing trees
allowed. Also keeping the needed tiled areas to a minimum and maximizing
natural green areas for more trees to be planted.
9
- Optimization of the designs of
water pools and channels so as to limit the use of water and reduce
waste and evaporation. Also natural oxidation and recycling processes
are introduced. Even though water has an apparent presence in the Garden, where water
pools are distributed among the major sections of the Garden.
10
- The exhibits and galleries
in the
- Garden were selected to cover
a wide
- range of the science
phenomena, math
- & technological
applications. Distributed
- into different zones; named
using
- common sense; and directly
according to the phenomena being demonstrated by the exhibits. With
concentration on the outdoor activities
to exploit the natural atmosphere intended in this learning
process.
11
- The exhibits and galleries in
the Garden were chosen to be of clear and simple design, easy to
comprehend and operate by the visitor. Black boxes
were eliminated (as possible) from the exhibits designs. Each exhibit is
to be accompanied with a plateau explaining the
scientific phenomena and instructing the user for
the operation of the
exhibit; using down to earth simple
language, in both Arabic and English.
12
- Considering the guidelines
and design aspects above also contributed much in reducing the costs of
the Garden infrastructure, civil works and exhibits used. Therefore the
project cost will hopefully be kept within the allocated budget.
